"This Indenture, made on the 24th day of April 1815 by Ginne Griffing of Branford in the County of New Haven on the one part and Jonathan Scranton of Guilford in (?) County on the other part witnesseth, that the said Ginne Griffing has on this day put her son Henry on apprentice to the said Jonathan Scranton to labor for him the said Jonathan at husbandry business for the term of five years, ten months, ten days which term will end on the 7th day of March AD 1821 when this Henry will arrive to the age of twenty-one years during all which time the Ginne Griffing promises that the said Henry shall faithfully serve his Master and his lawful command, obey and shall not absent himself from his said Master's service without his leave. And the said Jonathan on his part covenants and agrees to instruct the (?) Apprentice in good husbandry so far as his capacity will permit of, and three months in each of the two first years of his Apprenticeship he will send him to school and do all in his power during his time of schooling to have him taught to read and write, and that he will at other times cause him to be instructed at home as to reading. And that during (?) term he will feed, clothe, wash for and lodge the (?) Henry that he may at all times be comfortable in his business and be enabled to appear decently on Holy days, and that at the expiration of (?) term the said Jonathan will dismiss him from his service and give him one hundred twenty-five dollars in cash, and two suits of clothes for all parts of his life, one suitable for working days, the other for Holy days; and that during the whole term of this indenture, he will treat the (?) apprentice with (?), and will counsel and advise him as occasions may require. For the faithful performance of the foregoing we have hereunto set our hands and seals the day and year above written."

EARL OF LAUDERDALE DOCUMENT ON EBAY
Dated 'the yeire of god Jas. vi and threttie yeires', [1596/97?], being a grant of two mills from John, Earl of Lauderdale, Viscount Maitland, Lord Thirlstane and Bolton [d. 1645], who was their hereditary proprietor, to James Robertson, described as indweller in Brunstonne [?Brownstone] Mill, several 'takismen' [tacksmen] are recorded as having an interest in a third part each, on behalf of Richard Maitland for one third, Walter Bronne [Brown?] and John Wernor [Warner?], 'bailyies', and Henri Calderwood, 'thesaurar', of Musselburgh for another third, and Thomas Smyth and the aforesaid James Robertson for the remaining third, the mills being 'auld mill of Gilbertonne also callit Brunstonne mill', formerly let to Sir James Richardson of 'Smetonne'; and 'our new mill of Gilbertonne' lately built beneath the old mill 'besid the Magdalen brig', the sums payable to be 400 and 200 marks respectively, signed by 'Lauderdaill' and witnessed by Christopher Cokburne and Allan Cathcart.

1790 Rockingham County, James Linzy Perkins
1790 Rockingham County two page document calling for the Constables of Northfield, New Hampshire to attach the Good or Estate of James Linzy Perkins of Northwood, Gentleman, in the amount of Sixty Shillings and to take the body of Perkins. Signed in bold by Jonathan Stevens, Jun. JP of Concord, at his house. The Blacksmith Joseph Conner of Sanbornton, Stafford County charges that in 1788 he gave him a pound"Lawful Money" and it was to be repaid in "Money or Butter." On the reverse is a note signed by Gardner Green that he attached a Chair.Signed Also by Benjamin Green. "B. Green."

1812 BALTIMORE LEGAL DOCUMENT JAMES BRYDEN SEALED Item number: 320164353227
July 22, 1812. Baltimore, Maryland legal document. The document is signed by John Hargrove, James Bryden, and John Purviance. Three promissary notes are attached, each signed by Bryden.
Edward Johnson, "a citizen of the state of Maryland and not residing therein is bona fide indebted to him the said Edward Johnson in the sum of Three hundred and twenty five dollars and five cents, over and above all discounts".
The three notes signed by John Bryden are mentioned in the document, "the three several promissary notes which are hereunto annexed by which the said James Bryden is so indebted and the said Edward Johnson also makes oath."
Document is sworn before Judge John Hargrove, signed by Hargrove twice.

“Franklin County to wit
Joel Walker plaintiff complains of William Smith & Dennis Pullman defendants in custody of a plea of debt, that they render unto him the just sum of fifty-five dollars which to him they owe and from him unjustly detain for that the said defendants did on the first day of January 1810 at the parish of in the County aforesaid, by this certain writing obligatory sealed with their seals the date whereof is the same day and year aforesaid, and now by the plaintiff to this court there shown, promised to pay the aforesaid Joel Walker, the just sum of fifty-five dollars in twelve months after date of said writing and the plaintiff in fact doth own that the said defendants the said sum of fifty-five dollars in twelve months after date of said writing obligatory to the same plaintiff did not pay which they ought to have done according to the form & effect thereof, but the same to pay hath hitherto agreed and (?) doth affirm to the damage of said plaintiff ten dollars wherefore he sues (?). DS”
